About Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

What is EFT?

Image by Mockup Graphics

Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is a technique that can help with:

  • Relieving stress and promoting general relaxation;

  • Releasing and transforming uncomfortable, intense or stuck emotions like anxiety, sadness, anger, guilt and frustration;

  • Identifying, exploring and resolving limiting thinking and habits of behaviour;

  • Gently healing the effects of trauma.

EFT is commonly referred to as 'tapping'. Just as acupuncture uses needles to apply pressure to specific meridien points in the body, in EFT we use fingertip tapping to apply pressure to these same points. The tapping sends signals to the part of the brain that controls stress and reduces Cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body.

EFT has been found to be effective in relieving anxiety, trauma, stress, insomnia, physical pain, phobias and emotional stuckness. It is a simple and effective technique that is easy to learn and can be used in our daily life to support your wellbeing.

EFT can be done safely and effectively both face-to-face and online.

After learning a technique to allow you to return to a calm state if strong emotions arise, you will be asked to bring the negative emotion or problem you want to work on to mind. This might be a fear, unresolved problem, strong emotion, limiting or difficult memory.

While maintaining your mental focus on the problem and tuning into the body, we will use fingertips to tap on 9 specific meridian points of the body. This sends a calming signal to the brain, letting your brain know it is safe to relax and reduce stress around this issue.

Clients often describe feeling calmer, less stressed and happier at the end of a session and report that the difficulty they came with no longer triggers the same emotional response.

It's OK to be sceptical (I know I was when I first did EFT!). All it requires is a willingness to give it a go.
